Miles has had direct involvement with and responsibility, as project manager or project director, for a wide range of projects covering consultancy and IT development activities. Many of his projects have involved modelling work, and he has been responsible for developing a number of significant innovative programming systems in the field of traffic and transport. He has specialist knowledge in a number of areas including computer traffic simulation and trip estimation techniques. His knowledge of software spans the full software lifecycle from design to development, commissioning and support issues. He has programming experience in a number of software languages, and has developed software systems integrating database, GIS, and web-based capabilities. Miles is the author of the Transport Assessor system which assists users with varied interests and perspectives in sharing transport information using web-enabled GIS technology.
